Payroll calculation base
This setting dictates if an appointment is included in the set time range on the Payroll report.
Payment received:
Employee will get paid on fully and/or partially paid appointments within the set payroll period.
Example: The payroll period is January 1 to January 15. Appointments that took place within the January 1 to January 15 range that are fully or partially paid will be calculated and included in the total payroll amount for that staff member. Appointment status does not matter.
Appointment finished:
Employee will get paid on finished appointments only. Tips for finished but unpaid appointments will only be calculated if they're predetermined and included on the invoice.
Example: The payroll period is January 1 to January 15. Appointments that took place within the January 1 to January 15 range that are in the Finished status will be calculated and included in the total payroll amount for that staff member. Payment status does not matter.
Tip splitting
This setting dictates the default tip split if there are multiple staff members assigned to an appointment.
Split by service price:
Tips get divided based on the price set for each task. This depends on how the appointment is set up in multi-staff mode.
Example:
A client leaves a $10 tip on a $100 appointment. There are two staff members working on the same service.
Lily and Marina work on same pet with total service price $100. For this appointment, 80% of the service price is given to Lily and 20% is given to Marina, so the $10 tip would be split $8 to Lily and $2 to Marina. In multi-staff mode, the commission will be calculated by the percentage dictated within the appointment multiplied by staff's normal commission rate.
Split by staff equally:
Tips get evenly distributed among all staff involved in the service.
Example:
A client leaves a $10 tip on a $100 appointment. There are two staff members working on the same service.
Lily and Marina both get $5 in tip for this appointment.
Specific Service Commission
Custom commission rates for specific services and add-ons that override the general payroll settings per staff member.
When an appointment has one of these services, the commission will be calculated at this rate, regardless of the staff's commission rate (for both tiered and fixed rates).
Examples:
All staff will get 90% commission for nail trims that they're assigned to you. Groomer A gets 40% commission on services (set under their staff profile). The nail trim is $10 and Groomer A has a nail trim appointment. They will receive $9 for this appointment, rather than $4 due to the specific service commission.
Payroll options
General Service Commission:
Commission will be calculated based on service and add-on revenue from a staff member's assigned appointments. There are two types of commission that you can set up:
By fixed rate: You will set up the fixed percentage of service and add-on revenue that staff members will receive for each appointment that they're assigned to. This may vary if you have specific rates for certain services and add-ons or if the staff is assigned to a multi-staff appointment.
By tiered rate: You can choose between a Sliding scale or Progressive rate which is by individual appointment.
- Sliding scale: Overall commission rate depends on total amount of sales for the appointment and which tier it falls under.
- Progressive: Commission rate adjusts depending on total amount of sales for the appointment within each tier.
Examples:
Say that you set up 3 tiers at the following rates:
- Tier 1: $0 to $100 at 40%
- Tier 2: $100.01 to $200 at 45%
- Tier 3: $200.01+ at 50%
Sliding scale: If the total sale amount for an appointment is $150, staff would earn 45% commission on that appointment, so a total of $67.50 for that appointment.
Progressive: If the total sales for an appointment were $150, staff would earn 40% on $100 ($40), and 45% on $50 ($22.50)- a total of $62.50 for that appointment.
Hourly
Payroll is calculated by the clock/in out hours and multiplied by set hourly rate.
Tips rate
Selecting this box indicates that the staff member will receive 100% of the tips they receive on any assigned appointments. If this box is not selected, tips will not be included in the staff member's payroll.
💡Please note: Implementing a 0% tip rate may violate federal or state laws if the business intends to keep tips that staff member receives. It is your responsibility to ensure compliance with all laws as it pertains to your business.
FAQs
Where do I find the payroll report?
You can find the payroll report under Reports > Payroll.
Can my employees access all of these settings?
The commission settings are only available to the Owner account. The Payroll report can be made accessible to individuals as needed.
How do discounts on an appointment affect payroll?
Staff commission is calculated on the original service price, before the discount, so a discount wil not affect a staff's payroll.
Ex: If a staff member has a 50% commission on a $100 service, they will earn $50. If there was a 25% discount given to the customer, reducing their invoice to $75, the staff member would still earn $50 commission.
How do package sales count in payroll?
If a package is applied to an appointment to cover a service, that service will not be included in the staff's commission.
